The DPL Magic Trimmer is a solid-state laser based on Nd:YAG laser technology. This system designed specially for trimming applications enables trimming operations to be fully automated.
Properties
The DPL Magic Trimmer is fully air-cooled and is small and compact. It has a trimming module interface for connecting the measuring equipment. The standard version of the optional camera module has an optical resolution of approximately 9 µm/pixel with an image size of approximately 9 x 9 mm². By tilting the scanner mirrors, individual resistors or partial areas can be selectively recorded and trimmed. The laser beam ablates material from the resistive coat without damaging the ceramic substrate, thereby increasing the resistance.
ACI's laser trimmers differ from lasers designed for marking materials because of the way that the beam is generated for trimming applications and because they have extra electrical interfaces. The trimming process is stopped in real time by external measuring amplifiers. The most recent mirror/position data is automatically saved so that a cut can be resumed from the same position.
An optional camera module can be coupled into the beam path, following the trimming process in the direction of the laser beam. This imaging system for analysing images detects and locates the components that need to be trimmed, positions the cuts and compensates for position changes resulting from the soldering process. The trimming operations can be observed and documented. The trimming process can be statistically analysed by looking at the cut length and time.
The DPL Magic Trimmer can either be integrated into existing production lines or it can be used in combination with a laser station as a manual workstation.
Software
The laser system is controlled using our proprietary Magic Mark marking software. An intelligent user privilege management system facilitates the creation of different user groups. This way, the laser system can be adjusted to cater for the user's specific requirements. When using the laser system in automated production lines, fully automated operation – including data exchange with various data sources – can be achieved without any difficulties. Optionally, plugins can be used to add extra functions to the Magic Mark software.
